Week 2 discussion Question 2

I think the most important I have to make in my life is to decide whether coming over to the states study or not. If you have read my intro post, you would learned that I was born in Hong Kong and studying in Hong Kong until grade 10. Me and my mum was arguing about should I come to the state or not.  At that time , my mum just had an operation with her eyes and she wanted me to stay with her and take care of her, but then I believe that was a great time for me to travel to the state and study in high school to help me get used to the environment before entering college. We had quite a few talks, but it turned out to be quarrels. I do care my mum a lot but I have a clear mind and desire to move to the states. After all the discussion sessions we had, she finally changed her mind because of my firmed stance. Therefore, I believe that if you want something, you will naturally fight for it until you have reached the goal.
My mum finally permitted me to go to the states not only because of my strong desire, but also the research and plans I have made and showed her. Varies research helped me to make that decision. I think you have to think twice before making any decisions, and conduct some researches whenever you are stuck on something when you have to make decisions.

Week 2 Discussion Question 1

After reading the same sex marriage article, I believe president Barack Obama is not supporting nor opposing homosexual marriages. On one hand the government is opposing to the marriage, but he is backing up same sex marriage on the other hand. He is contradicting himself because he does not want to lose voters from both sides. Therefore, you can say he is natural, but I think he will not clearly state his stance because he is afraid of losing majority of voters.  Gays and lesbians are not having equal rights because he is opposing same sex marriage on the government level. I do not think Obama will respond to Nava and Dawidoff's argument because whichever side he supports, he will lose voters on the other side in the upcoming election which he does not wish that happens. I personally think that if Obama has to choose a side, he would support same sex marriage because he is supporting the majority in the civil unions, which can directly help him to gain more votes.

Hello!

Hello classmates,

My name is Adrian Yan and I am a sophomore at San Jose State. This is my second comm class and my first comm class was comm 20, which I enjoyed it a lot. Comm 20 is a Public speaking class that enriched my public speaking skills. My major is International Business and I am planning to study accounting as my minor. I would like to work in an international firm after the completion of my bachelor's degree. I was born and raised in Hong Kong, then I moved to San Francisco for High School in 2009 and I am in San Jose right now. I love to play and watch soccer. Arsenal FC is my favorite club and they are based in London, England. Therefore, I would love to visit London sometime. I am addicted to coffee, sometimes I drink coffee twice or more a day. My goal for this class is to learn more about critical decision making and hopefully I will be learning something that helps me when I have to make decisions.

Feel free to ask me if you would like to know more about me! (:
